Southern Pecans (Private) Limited is a commercial joint-venture project located at the Valley Irrigation Scheme, approximately 10km west of Kezi in the Matabeleland region. Established as a strategic expansion, the company is 50% owned by Kalimba Investments—relying on the exact same management team, administrative compliance, and superior orchard practices that drive our success here at Balu Estate. The remaining 50% is held by Pecan Fields PL, bringing extensive, large-scale cropping experience from regional estates like Antelope and Ngwezi ARDA.

THE PROJECT

High-Density Pecan Infrastructure

The Valley Irrigation Scheme is a robust, turn-key agricultural enterprise sustained by a dedicated dam on a tributary of the Thuli River, multi-stage pump houses, and a centralized holding storage pond feeding 320 hectares of total irrigation space.

  • 65 * 64.8 The Orchard: In 2020, Southern Pecans planted 20,000 pecan trees across 150 hectares, integrating advanced microjet under-canopy irrigation systems to optimize growth.
  • 65 * 64.8 Sustainable Inter-Cropping: To ensure self-sustaining project finances, 90 hectares of land under center pivots are utilized for high-yield crop rotations of soya, wheat, and maize. The profits from these seasonal crops completely fund the long-term development and operational expenses of the younger pecan orchards.
THE MODEL

True Community Upliftment & Royalties

At its heart, Southern Pecans is a model for revolutionary community-led commercial farming. Initiated after 200 local family beneficiaries approached our shareholders for development assistance, the project operates under a legally binding, 40-year agreement endorsed by the Government of Zimbabwe.

  • Immediate Support: Throughout the early development phase, local beneficiaries receive guaranteed baseline rental payouts from the company distributed directly in the form of food to secure regional food security.
  • Long-Term Wealth: Once the pecan orchards reach commercial bearing thresholds, families hold the flexible option to transition to a cash royalty payment calculated as a direct percentage of the project's turnover.
  • 65 * 64.8 Generational Legacy: Because pecans are a legacy crop capable of producing for decades, the entire Kezi community is significantly uplifted through permanent employment, local agricultural training, and guaranteed royalty streams, culminating in the ultimate transition of orchard ownership back to the community.
